Van Gogh and Rembrandt
Parallel to the Rembrandt-Caravaggio show the Print Room in the exhibition wing offers a presentation devoted to Van Gogh and Rembrandt. Works by the two artists - in all some 25 paintings, drawings and letters - reveal how Van Gogh became familiar with Rembrandt's oeuvre and how his admiration for this Golden Age master acquired an increasingly artistic flavour. Special attention is given to the Raising of Lazarus which Van Gogh painted in 1890 after an eponymous print by Rembrandt, translating the 17th-century original into colour. This presentation was compiled by guest curator Prof.
Peter Hecht of Utrecht University and is open exclusively to visitors to Rembrandt-Caravaggio.
Richly illustrated catalogue Rembrandt-Caravaggio.
Authors: Duncan Bull, Taco Dibbits, Volker Manuth and Ernst van de Wetering in collaboration with Margriet van Eikema Hommes. Approx. 160 pages; Dutch, English, French, German and Italian editions. Published by Waanders Uitgevers Zwolle and the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.
Price: € 29.95 (paperback), € 39.95 (hard back).
